Evaluations of Masks

Recently we have researched and created a mask of our choice that had something to do with a play or the theatre.
The mask that I researched and created was the cat in the hat from the Dr Suess stories. I chose to do this mask as I used to love the dr suess stories when i was younger and thought it would be relatively simple to create as it doesn't have a lot of detail. I was wrong. The mask and hat took an age to make.
How we made it: Firstly when we found a mask to use as a template we cling filmed the mask and paper mached over it. Later, we painted our mask and added any bits an bobs if necessary. I found it very easy making the mask but I found it tough making the hat at this was a lengthy process. I was trying not to ruin it because even in the slightest as i am incredibly fussy and like things perfect so if I did ruin it in any way i would get extremely frustrated. I tried to take a calm and relaxed approach to making the mask.
The final design is the same as the initial design that i first drew. I didn't want to change it as there wasnt much detail to it, so if I added extra detail I believe I would have ruined it as I am very pleased with my final design.
The good things about my mask are: it is finished to what I think is a very goood standard for me as i have never done anything like this before and you can tell it is the cat in the hat, so people arent constantly asking what your product is .
The bad things about the mask are: the hat isn't very tall so it takes away the fun of having the gigantic hat but it has been cut down to a good size for the mask itself as if it was gigantic as I intiaily planned the hat would probably fall off the mask because of the total difference in size as the mask probably wouldn't be able to support it.
If I could change anything then I would make the hat the corrrect size it was supposed to be, but I do think that cutting down the size of the hat was the best thing to do.
I am very pleased with the outcome of my mask and really enjoyed making it also. If I had the choice I probably wouldn't do it again though because it was very lengthy and found it very frustating to make as i would get to annoyed with myself If i spent all my time on it and ruined it.
